Our Mission

Ty Barber is Sarah's 3rd son and part owner of Chakam Homeschool Services.  He loves weightlifting, baseball, and business. He got his entrepreneurial drive from his mother.  After washing dishes in a local restaurant, he decided to do something different.  He started his own successful lawn care and snow removal business.Ty was a homeschool kid himself. He lived it and wanted to help. Knowing Ty's drive, his mom decided it would be great to work together.       

Sarah Barber is a wife and mom of 4 amazing kids, a former schoolteacher, and an entrepreneur.  She taught first grade, kindergarten, and pre-school in Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin.  Running her own successful home-based business for nearly 2 decades, gave her the opportunity to be actively involved in her children's education.  Sarah and her husband, Steve, soon realized their family values were not aligning with their local school district and decided to homeschool.  The process was overwhelming at first.  There were so many choices, and in New York, so many requirements.  After being mentored by a friend, researching curriculum, and learning regulations, she figured it out.  Several other parents trying to do the same thing, came to her for advice. 

Howard Martin is a former bank executive turned entrepreneur. After working his way into the "C" suite at a local bank, he decided to make a change. He started his own highly successful consulting business, and partnered with Sarah's husband Steve in a real estate venture that spans from New York to Florida.  His business acumen and financial experience made him a natural fit for Chakam. Howard has been married to his lovely wife Bonnie for more than 30 years. They have 2 children and a beautiful grandson.
